“Adding intense excitement to this concert was debuting tenor Issachah Savage, whose bright and powerful voice conveyed high drama to elicit several awed bravos in his delivery of "Ah si, ben mio" from "Il Trovatore," where Manrico learns as he is ready to marry Leonora that his mother is about to be burned at the stake.
Savage proved a strong Otello in his passionate singing of "Niun mi tema" after murdering his innocent wife, Desdemona. Also from "Otello," Savage joined soprano Colleen Daly to deliver the program’s artistic peak in the sublime love duet "Gia nella notte densa," which almost defies description in its ardent passion and gorgeous "Un Bacio" melody.”
