When The Caged Bird Sings
In this world-premier performance, American composer Nkeiru Okoye fuses elements of oratorio, theater, and opera in a multi-movement musical ceremony of sorts, which Okoye describes as “a gathering” that invokes the ritual of the concert experience as a ritual of community. Drawing inspiration from the Black church, it celebrates the spirit of rising above expectations and transforming adversity into triumph. Maestro Kenneth Kiesler, conductor.

National Symphony Orchestra Debut
Issachah makes his long-awaited debut with the National Symphony Orchestra debut under the baton of Maestro Gianandrea Noseda. Noseda brings NSO celebration to an epic close with Beethoven’s Ninth, the symphony by which all others are measured. The cosmic drama of this masterwork—its grand, emotional melodies and tremendous final “Ode to Joy”—reminds us why Beethoven’s final symphony resounds as loudly today as it did two centuries ago.

The Walkers (World Premiere)
Issachah makes his stage debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as “Mr. Curtis Toler” in a gripping world premiere composed by Daniel Roumain’s “The Walkers”. This provocative new work is a part of a three-opera master work called Proximity; that will address some of the challenges we face in our society today.
